“Mais d’où sortent-ils ?”, “Que mangent-ils au p’tit dej’ ?”, “On est en quelle année déjà ?”, autant de questions qui se bousculent quand on se confronte au post hardcore de Loons. Du genre à avoir trempé dans le grunge et l’indie rock qui ont fait les beaux jours de la scène américaine des 90s. Le mindfuck est d’autant plus total quand on apprend que c’est de Montpellier que nous vient ce trio, et que ses membres n’étaient même pas nés à l’âge d’or du mouvement susnommé. À 21 ans, Elio Richardeau, Antoine Bay et Axel Sirodeau incarnent le petit miracle que le rock hexagonal n’attendait plus. Conçu avec la maestria du producteur Amaury Sauvé (Birds In Row, It It Anita, Plebeian Grandtsand entre 1000 autres), Life Is les montre prêts à renverser la table sans demander leur reste. Un premier album qui établit déjà une prise de maturité considérable après l’EP Cold Flames (2022), alliant avec assurance autant de puissance que d’expression émotive. Des cracks, vous dis-je.

“Where do they come from?”, “What do they have for breakfast?”, “What year is it again?”, these are just some of the questions that come to mind when confronted with Loons’ post-hardcore. One that got bathed into grunge and indie rock, defining the American music scene of the 90s. But the mindfuck is even greater when you find out that this trio hails from Montpellier, and that its members weren’t even born during the golden age of that movement. At 21, Elio Richardeau, Antoine Bay, and Axel Sirodeau embody the little miracle that French rock music wasn’t expecting. Produced with the masterful touch of Amaury Sauvé (Birds In Row, It It Anita, Plebeian Grandstand, among many others), Life Is shows them ready to shake things up and leave no stone unturned. This debut album already demonstrates considerable musical maturity, building on their 2022 EP Cold Flames, and confidently blending raw power with emotional expression. Champions, I tell you.
