Description

1988: Béziers, Armand Gonzalez, passionate about new wave and post-punk music, works tirelessly on the guitar and creates Undersloy. His influences are : The Cure , Siouxsie And The Banshees and Echo and the Bunnymen. This first album foreshadowed the Sloy of the future.

1990: After the various changes in personnel that are part and parcel of any self-respecting secondary school band, Cyril Bilbeaud and Virginie Peitavi were recruited to play drums and bass respectively. They didn’t play any instruments at the time. It was within what had just become Sloy that they developed their styles.

1991: The trio cut their lessons, rehearsed intensively, either as a group or solo, did a succession of odd jobs, went to gigs, got involved in a local music association and listened to as many records as possible. Cyril bought his first drum kit, Virginie her first bass. Armand provided the tracks: new wave-influenced rock with a fusion feel. A first demo followed, recorded with the means at hand.

At the time, the absolute reference was Les Thugs: this group, signed to Sub Pop, gave the impression that it was possible to let loose, to go abroad… to produce rock music in France that inspired respect and passion across the Channel and the Atlantic.
