D.O.A.’s The Black Spot stands as one of the band’s most defining statements, shaped by adversity and creative resolve. As the godfathers of hardcore prepared to record a studio album, tragedy struck with the death of drummer Ken Jensen in a house fire. In the aftermath, the remaining members regrouped and invited John Wright of NoMeansNo to step in behind the kit.

Wright agreed immediately, and the sessions that followed channelled grief, anger and determination into a fiercely focused body of work. Joined by core members Joey Shithead Keithley and Brian ‘Wimpy Boy’ Gobel, alongside contributions from Ford Pier (later of Dead Bob), the band delivered an album that balanced raw power with sharp songwriting and momentum.
